Asphalt Surface[]

The asphalt surface is probably the most-known surface type in iRacing and in the real world. This surface type, known affectionately as the "All Rounder", is found at the vast majority of iRacing's oval and road course tracks found around the world. This surface is also known for its wide grip availability and also competitive racing. For the cleanness of the races themselves, that usually depends on a variety of factors ranging from situation to awareness and sometimes, even aggressiveness. Also, this surface is one of two surface types in iRacing and also in the real world where diamond grinding is optional. Diamond grinding makes the track fast but can make it very loose if the proper high grip tires and downforce can't handle its heavy loads.

Pros: This surface does not have the same grip levels as the concrete surface type but does not wear the tires down as fast as concrete either. The surface type is also much more easier on both tire wear and the tire grip leading to longer distances between pit stops. This surface itself is a bit easier to learn than the other surface types on the service since drivers are introduced to it in the rookie license days.

Cons: The only negatives of the asphalt surface is that it can be unforgiving on some parts of any oval or road course and that the camber can be sloped to a point of it being a disadvantage of the driver or the race car itself.

These are the 5 categories for rating a surface type in iRacing:

Grip (how much grip that surface type has, 0-4 is low grip, 5 is neutral, 6-10 is high grip)

Longevity (how far a driver can go between pit stops, 0-4 is short, 5 is neutral, 6-10 is long)

Merciful (how forgiving it is, numbers from 0-4 are unforgiving, 5 is neutral, and 6-10 is forgiving)

Speed (how much speed can be carried on the surface type, 0-4 is slow, 5 is neutral, 6-10 is speedy)

Tire Wear: (how much it wears down the tires on the car, 0-4 is quick, 5 is neutral, and 6-10 is slow).

Rating of Asphalt Surface:

Grip: 6/10

Longevity: 7/10

Merciful: 5/10

Speed: 7/10

Tire Wear: 6/10

Overall Rating: 31/50 (62%)
