iRacing Power Types[]
This features all of the power types that are in all of the cars on iRacing. As of now, iRacing has 6 different power types across all of the racecars on the sim which are Gasoline (Petrol), Diesel, Methanol, Ethanol, Hybrid, and Electric. All 6 fuel types do have pros and cons and the list is down below.
Note: Other countries do call gasoline (petrol) other names like Benzene, Essence, Naphtha and so on but this page is limiting it to gasoline (petrol) to keep things simple.
Gasoline (Petrol):[]
Pros:[]
- Refueling is quick and easy
- Simple and Reliable
- Pretty good fuel range
- Widely available
- Higher revs compared to diesel
- More performance than diesel
Cons:[]
- Less Fuel Efficient
- Packs less energy than diesel
- Less fuel range than diesel
- Fossil Fuel
- More trips for refueling
Diesel:[]
Pros:[]
- Refueling is quick and easy
- Much longer fuel range than gasoline
- Packs more energy than gasoline
- More Fuel efficient
- Fewer trips for refueling
Cons:[]
- Fossil Fuel
- Lower revs compared to gasoline
- Less performance than gasoline
Methanol:[]
Pros:[]
- Makes more power without using gasoline
- Has effective boost to horsepower ratio
- Has lower inlet air temperatures and lower exhaust gas temperatures
- Can be made from a variety of domestic carbon-based feedstocks
Cons:[]
- High amount of emissions
- Less fuel mileage which requires more refueling
- Packs less energy than gasoline (petrol) and diesel requiring larger fuel tanks
Ethanol:[]
Pros:[]
- Low Emissions and High Octane
- Can boost the performance of a gasoline (petrol) engine
- Made from waste materials and existing cars can use E10, higher blends are in flex fuel automobiles
Cons:[]
- Lower fuel efficiency than gasoline (petrol), diesel, hybrid, etc.
- Range is usually limited
- Packs less energy than gasoline (petrol) and diesel requiring larger fuel tanks
Hybrid:[]
Pros:[]
- More quiet than engines can be as quiet as electric cars
- Can switch from just using the engine or to just using the electric motor
- More fuel efficient with a longer fuel range
- Battery gets recharged as you drive
- More power and fast acceleration
Cons:[]
- Performance can be reduced if the engine or electric motor is turned off
- Overall weight is higher due to having two power sources
- Smaller engine resulting in less power
Electric:[]
Pros:[]
- High torque
- More power than engines
- Faster acceleration than engines
- More Quiet Operation than engines
- Overall Weight is less than twin drive motor cars
- More efficient than twin drive motor cars
Cons[]
- Range is usually limited
- Recharging times varies from car to car
- Overall weight can be higher than regular fossil fuel or methanol and ethanol cars
- Can be less efficient than regular fossil fuel or methanol and ethanol cars
