Biography:[]
Through the years, Ray always had the desire to get behind the wheel of a real racecar. However, like most motorsport enthusiasts, didn't have the financial backing to fullfill his dream.
To fill the void, Ray turned to online racing in 2003. He quickly proved to be one of the most skilled virtual racers within NASCAR Racing 2003 Season's stockcar platform. He has many accomplishments, but one of the finer moments includes a championship in Dale Earnhardt Jr's invite only virtual league - DMP. Many NASCAR drivers, including Dale Jr, Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr, Denny Hamlin and others raced in this series for numerous years.
In 2008, the iRacing Motorsport Simulator was released to the public. As the simulator really started to gain popularity, the need for a World Championship grew. In 2010, the top 50 drivers within the oval racing service were selected to compete for $10,000 and the title of the NASCAR iRacing Series World Championship (NiSWC).
Ray didn't have the inaugural season he could have hoped for in the NASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series, finishing with 1 win and 8th in the overall standings. However, 2011 and 2012 would result in a combined 8 wins in 35 starts (the most of any driver) and two consecutive World Championships to his name. In 2016, he won his third World Championship, setting new single season records for top 5s, top 10s, and average finish. Then, in 2018, he won his fourth World Championship.
These, and many other accomplishments, have helped Ray become the most successful oval driver in the iRacing service.
Now, everyone is wondering what Ray could do if given a chance to race in a real car. Many professional drivers have taken note of iRacing's accuracy and use it for training. Is virtual racing skill a true indicator of how well drivers might do in the physical racing world? That question remains somewhat uncertain, but Ray will be looking to answer that question soon.
