F1 red flag

In Auto Racing, the Red Flag across NASCAR, IndyCar, and FIA-sanctioned championships mean that the session or race has been suspended due to weather, too much debris on track, or when the conditions are too dangerous to continue.

Depending on the series and the circumstances, the cars are typically directed to proceed immediately to pit road, or to stop at a specific spot on the track. In some severe cases the cars might be required to stop immediately where they are. During red flag conditions, repair work in the pits or garage area is typically prohibited, except in non-points paying races.

This flag in iRacing is only used for when server issues are present but red flags are also used for driver meetings during practice or for setting up the next heat race. When the flag is out or announced, all cars must return to pit road immediately. It can also mean the track is closed if a session is yet to start.

NASCAR: Session suspended, practice or qualifying finished with both red and black flags waving together.

IndyCar: Session suspended.

FIA-sanctioned championships: Session suspended.

iRacing: Session is yet to start, Server issues, driver meetings during practice, setting up the next heat race.
